(This review has also been posted on the front page)

When I first discovered the Python web framework Django a few years back, I had a trouble finding a web host with support for it. Most web hotels / shared hosting providers only offer simple setups with PHP and MySQL, but luckily that's changing.

The web is evolving. New technologies, frameworks and languages show up from time to time. Django was released as open source software in 2003, and has since then seen a huge growth in popularity.

    What you get

For my first Django based websites, I had a VPS, but since my websites didn't generate enough traffic yet, I decided to look for a shared hosting provider. A quick Google search for "Django hosting" sent me to Djangohosting.ch. You get 1000MB storage, FTP and SSH access, 200GB bandwidth 60MB RAM and 10 local TCP ports for 4 Eur/month, but you can upgrade any of these at any time. As the price was a third of what I paid for my VPS back then, I decided to give it a try.

    One-click Django Installer

One of the biggest advantages with a shared hosting provider compared to, for example, a VPS, is that you don't have to mess with setting up the server, keeping the software up to date etc. Also, to make everything even simpler, Djangohosting.ch offers a "One-click Django Installer". You simply insert the project name, whether you want a database or not, what Django version you want, and everything is automatically set up for you. This is a massive time saver.

    Low ping and fast servers

Their servers are located in Germany, more precisely in Hetzner Online's datacenters in Nürnberg and Falkenstein. This results in low ping from all over Europe, and good uptime. In fact, none of the downtime I've experienced so far has been caused by hardware outages etc. I have, however, experienced some down time caused by software crashes, mostly from MySQL. The down time hasn't been a major issue, but there is room for improvement.

If you don't have time for setting up a VPS or a dedicated server, and your website is not all that big yet, Djangohosting.ch will be a good choice.
